SUN Bucks is an income-based food support program that provides families with $120 per eligible school-aged child to buy groceries when school is out for the summer. SUN Bucks is a federally funded program administered by the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families and the Minnesota Department of Education.

The SUN Bucks program is expected to reduce food insecurity for more than 490,000 Minnesotan children this summer. New SUN Bucks cards will be mailed to families in late May through September 2025. The benefits can be used at grocery stores, farmers markets and other retailers that accept EBT cards.

    All eligible children will receive a new SUN Bucks card this year. Families should save this 2025 card for use each year that the child is eligible. All 2024 Summer EBT cards can be discarded. We are issuing new cards this year due to the branding change.

    The same income requirements of 185% of Federal Poverty Guidelines apply for all households, including for children on MA. We understand that the household income requirements for MA are different, so not all children on MA will be eligible. You can see the exact numbers on the SUN Bucks webpage.
