    SSIS Coordinator and Mentor Information

The SSIS mentor role is to support the use of SSIS within the local agency. This work supports high quality accurate data for workers and data reporting. Each mentor’s specific role varies across agencies to meet agency-specific needs. In most agencies SSIS mentors concentrate on either worker or fiscal related responsibilities. In some agencies, however, mentor responsibilities lie in both areas.

    New SSIS Coordinator/Mentor eLearning Series

A series of on demand eLearning modules created for new mentors and coordinators. Modules are meant for initial training and as resource to review if/when needed.

    Worker Mentor Program

SSIS worker mentors provide front line assistance to local agency workers, coming right to the user’s workstation to explain and demonstrate SSIS functionality. Each mentor works closely with the SSIS county coordinator to ensure training opportunities, communicate new SSIS version features and provide technical support. When mentors are unable to troubleshoot problems and require assistance themselves, they have assigned access to contact the SSIS Help Desk.

    Fiscal Mentor Program

SSIS fiscal mentors provide first line assistance to county workers, coming right to the user’s workstation to explain and demonstrate SSIS Fiscal functionality. Each mentor works closely with that county’s Fiscal Coordinator(s) to ensure training opportunities and communicate new SSIS features.

    SSIS Mentor Manual

The SSIS Mentor Manual provides an overview of mentor roles and responsibilities as well as technical guidance for administering SSIS at the local agency level. Mentors and workers may also access the SSIS Worker Documentation and SSIS Fiscal Documentation pages for additional resources.

Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS)

was established to provide data that assists in policy development and program management. Data can be used by policymakers at the federal, Tribal and state levels to assess how many children are in foster care, reasons why they enter, how they exit and to develop strategies to prevent their entry into foster care.

Beginning with issue 634 the SSIS Update will include a new section titled AFCARS & SSIS Repository Corner.

    Articles will encompass:

    • Updates and information regarding AFCARS changes, compliance and specific errors.
    • Reminders, tips and warnings to help agencies improve AFCARS data entry.
    • Updates on reports and Worker Repository developments to help agencies identify, improve and correct AFCARS entry.
    • Helpful AFCARS and Repository resources.
    • Updates about statewide AFCARS performance.

Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA)

FFPSA gives state, county and Tribal child welfare agencies the ability to receive 50% reimbursement for federally approved services for children at imminent risk of out-of-home placement and their caregivers. The FFPSA establishes placement prevention services to strengthen families, prevent maltreatment and address other conditions that lead to out-of-home placement. When out-of-home placement is necessary, FFPSA supports placement in family foster homes. It establishes restrictions on out-of-home placements in congregate care and requirements for residential treatment facilities. This page was created to help share information, resources, and trainings related to the Family First Prevention Services Act in Minnesota. Recordings and supporting information for FFPSA-related webinars and trainings are shared here: Family First Prevention Services Act | Minnesota Child Welfare Training Academy (mnchildwelfaretraining.com)

Be sure to subscribe to the DCYF Family First Prevention Services Act for relevant e-updates.

Other relevant resources and SSIS Job Aides related to FFPSA can be found on the SSIS Resource Page under the Worker Documentation Page on PartnerLink: SSIS Worker Documentation (state.mn.us). Search this page by using CTRL+F and search keywords FFPSA or Family First.
